What it is
The straight take.
San Dimas sits in the eastern San Gabriel Valley, LA County, right where the valley starts climbing into the foothills. It's small, about 34,000 people, and it has kept a genuine small-town feel that most of its neighbors traded away years ago.
The Western theme isn't a gimmick the city bolted on. Old Town along Bonita and San Dimas Avenue keeps the wood-front, frontier-storefront look on purpose, and the rodeo and Western Days are still on the calendar every year. There are working horse trails through parts of town.
Bonelli Regional Park is the backyard. Puddingstone Reservoir for boating and fishing, miles of trails, and Raging Waters sitting right on the lake for the summer. It's one of the biggest pieces of open recreation land in the county.
Via Verde on the south side is the hillside neighborhood people move here for — winding streets, bigger homes, a golf course, and views back across the valley. San Dimas Canyon to the north is the other end of that: quieter, closer to the trailheads.
